A small High voltage generator that will achieve 30,000 to 40,000 volts of “static” electricity. The Mini van De Graaff generator is a complete Van de Graaff system, comprising of high speed motor, dissimilar charging rollers , charge take off combs and a storage ball. The VDG runs from a safe 12V supply (either and external or from batteries) and is completely safe to use. Although the output voltages are high, the current this little device can provide is very small. The charge is smaller than you can pick up walking across a carpet on a dry day. But this is enough to get sparks to fly 15-20mm and to use the Mini Van De Graaff for a number experiments :- Franklins bells, Jumping Rice, Electric Wind. See the resources section for more details.
The Mini Van De Graaff kit is designed for kids (or adults) to learn about “static” electricity by actually building a working device. This can lean on to discussions about charge separation, contact charging and the triboelectric scale.
The VDG is easy to construct and to take apart. Various changes to the device can be made to study the effect that changes to the combs and charging rollers make.

Although the voltages produced by product are safe for humans, this is not true for any other electronic device. IT MUST NOT BE USED WITHIN 300mm OF ANY ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT. Also be aware whilst using the device you may pick up electrostatic charge, do not operate any electronics whilst using the device. You are a conductor.
Does contain small parts and is therefore not suitable for small children. Doesn’t contain nuts, but its made where nuts are used.
