The 400mm van De Graaff generator is a complete Van de Graaff system, comprising of 1200 rpm motor, dissimilar charging rollers , brass charge take off combs and a 150mm storage ball. The 400mm VDG runs from a 12V supply (either an external power supply or from batteries) and is completely safe to use, this is because although the output voltages are high, the current this device can provide is very small. But this is enough to get sparks to fly 60mm or more. You can use the 400mm Van de Graaff for a number experiments :- Franklin’s bells, Jumping Rice, Electric Wind, ping-pong ball cyclotron. The 150mm van De Graaff generator is a complete Van de Graaff system, comprising of 1200 rpm motor with speed controller, two dissimilar charging rollers , two brass charge take off combs and a 150mm diameter stainless steel storage ball.

The 400mm VDG runs from a 12V supply from batteries(8 x AA battery holder included) or an external power supply  and is completely safe to use, this is because although the output voltages are high, the current this device can provide is very small. But this is enough to get sparks to fly 60mm or more. You can use the 400mm Van de Graaff for a number experiments :- Franklin’s bells, Jumping Rice, Electric Wind, ping-pong ball cyclotron. This Van De Graaff kit is designed for kids (or adults) to learn about “static” electricity either by actually building a working device or as part of a class. This can be used to introduce concepts of charge, voltage, static attraction and repulsion and  on to discussions about charge separation, contact charging and the tribo-electric scale.

This VDG is easy to construct and to take apart. Various changes to the device can be made to study the effect that changes to the combs and charging rollers make. and the rollers can be interchanged to make a +ve or -ve device (buy two 400mm van de graaff kits and set one for +ve and one -ve  for double spark length).

The kit has been made so that it can be maintained easily, so if after long use your Van De Graaff is showing signs of wear, the parts are easily available.
